For my independent novel, I chose to read Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. Someone Like you is about two best friends named Halley and Scarlett, who not only are best friends but are neighbors and have been for quite awhile. Scarlett on the other hand just lounged around poolside all summer. While Halley's mother sends her away to Sisterhood Camp. "At Sisterhood Camp, we were suppose to be Isolated from the Pressures of Society in order to Improve Ourselves as Women." (Dessen, 3)
The setting of Someone Like You takes place in present time Arizona. Halley and Scarlett both live in a neighborhood called Lakeview- A Neighborhood of Friends. Scarlett moved to Lakeview when Halley and Scarlett were just about eleven, and ever since then, they have been best friends. Even being a few chapters into this book, I recommend you read Someone Like You.
This book sounds pretty good! I think it would be cool to have your best friend be your neighbor.
ReplyDeletethis sounds like a good book
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds interesting, but why does the camp think that separating them from society helps them become women. Wouldn't that do the opposite since they don't get to interact with the society?
ReplyDeleteIt seems like Halley's mother is a lot more strict and that Scarlett is a lot more laid back. I feel that even though they are best friends, their differences will be a part of your book
ReplyDeleteI agree with 'Gelina Wiles' comment on how would that make them into women if they are separeted from society? Having a connectiont to society and working out problems on your own and really living day by day to get through, is a hard meaningful task that everyone goes through. It's part of who we all are in nature, to overcome problems that are diffucult in order to become a better person out of the expierence. I think that this camp has a negative impact and wouldn't be beneficial to the person going because it is not preparing them for the realistic problems they will have to deal with later in their life.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds good and its interesting how girls with such different parents ended up best friends
