While reading The Fault In Our Stars, not even that far into the book, there is so much imagery in the text. As I am reading I can visually picture everything that is happening. I can picture the setting, what the characters look like, by their actions and words. I can also picture the meeting room in the basement of a church for the support group.
To me, that is the best thing about the book. How there is so much imagery that I can picture almost everything in the book that is happening. Also the dialog in the story is also the best thing about this book. If you haven't yet read this, or are thinking about reading it, I would highly suggest that you read it!

The Fault In Our Stars
I chose to read The Fault In Our Stars by John Green for my independent reading novel. In the beginning of the book, it describes how Hazel; battling with Thyroid cancer that just met her lungs, is being forced to attend a Cancer Support Group in the basement of a local church. With the floor of the church looking like an actual cross, the group leader announces they meet in the "heart of Jesus".
Hazels mother had thought that Hazel was depressed as a side effect of have cancer, thought it would be best if Hazel went to a support group. The support group was just for cancer victims, to talk about struggles and their feelings and how the cancer is affecting them at the moment. Hazel absolutely dreaded going there. She had one friend who was close to her. His name was Isaac. Isaac is battling with cancer of the eye is undergoing a major surgery soon.
During one of the meetings, a newcomer has his eyes set on Hazel. Newcomers name is Augustus Waters. Augustus had his eyes on Hazel throughout the whole meeting. After the meeting was over, Augustus finally came over to properly talk to Hazel. With small talk going on between them, sweet little complements are exchanged between the two of them.
I think Hazel and Augustus will start to develop feelings for each other, soon becoming a couple and expressing their struggles with battling their cancer as the story goes on. I also think one will fall very ill during the story. What do you predict will happen?

Speechless
While reading speechless, the book seemed like a typical high school novel. The main character Chelsea, had a hard time keeping a secret of finding out Noah, was gay and having an affair. Chelsea told the wrong people, almost getting Noah killed. Once the whole school heard about Chelsea's mistake, all her friends turned on her, and was also getting bullied. Chelsea decided to take a vow of silence due to the fact she "couldn't keep her mouth shut" and only used a dry erase board as her form of communication. Her parents didn't agree with her decision of taking a vow of silence, and thought about sending Chelsea to see a doctor.
Chelsea went from being best friends with the most popular girl in school, to the person the whole school hated. Along the way, Chelsea meets a quite and shy girl named Asha. Asha worked at Rosies; the towns diner. Since Chelsea had nothing better to do or be with, she hung out at Rosies and waited for Asha's shifts to be over. While working at Rosies, Sam, one of the most popular boys in school, notices her. As the story developes, Sam and Asha start to become friends with Chelsea and helping her through her struggles with bullying. Sam forgets the mistake Chelsea made and falls in love with her. Sooner or later Chelsea makes the big decision to stop her vow of silence and start talking again, falling in love with someone close to her, and regaining a friendship with Noah.
People who enjoy reading about non-fiction would mostly enjoy this book. If I had to rate this book, it would probably be 4 stars. I really enjoyed this book, it kept me hanging on and wanting to read more!
